10 Best places to visit when you travel to Italy

Italy: A country located directly on the Mediterranean Sea in the south of Europe. For me Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. From numerous small villages to coasts, cities and lakes, Italy has a lot to offer. In total, I have already travelled through Italy for six weeks in my life and I still want to see so much more of this country.

If you’re just as passionate about the culture and all the specialties like pizza, pasta and ice cream, Italy should be your next travel destination.

Here I have chosen the ten most beautiful places that you must see on a tour through Italy:

Portofinos Lookout Point

The small village of Portofino on the Ligurian coast is fantastic to see. Especially the many colourful houses and the turquoise water make this place so unique. From Castle Brown, reached by a small climb on foot, you have the opportunity to admire Portofino from above. And not only the view of the village is breathtaking, but also the view over the coast.
Since Portofino is a car-free place, you can only get there on foot or by bus from Santa Margherita Ligure. Even though Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino are 5 kilometres away, it is worth walking the long distance and enjoying the view of the sea.

The fashion metropolis of Milan

Milan is the second largest city in Italy after Rome. Not only the Milan Cathedral but also the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is worth a visit. In the shopping streets you will find everything from expensive brand shops, ice cream parlors and restaurants.
Tip: The best way to get to the city center of Milan is by train.

Cinque Terre

The Cinque Terra is a 12 kilometer long stretch of coast in the Liguria region. Along the coast there are five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Everywhere on the coast of the Cinque Terre you will find fantastic views over the sea and the coast. Especially the famous village of Manarola with its many small colourful houses, is worth exploring. From Manarola there is also a narrow path that runs right along the coast, from where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the water and nature all the time.

The island of Capri

Capri is a rocky island in the Gulf of Naples. The island is known for the many caves in the sea, especially the Blue Grotto. On Capri there are many Lockout Points, from which you can observe the wonders of nature, the beautiful colors of the water and incredible sunrises and sunsets. In particular, a boat tour around the island is worthwhile to explore the island and its beauty even better.

Italy’s capital Rome

Rome is the capitol city of italy and has many sights to offer: the Spanish staircase, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Altare della Partia and of course the Coliseum. To reach all these tourist attractions, it is worth buying a train ticket.
In particular, the most famous fountain in the world, the Trevi Fountain, is worth a visit. Although the fountain is only so crowded by tourists, it remains a place worth seeing. The Coliseum and St. Peter’s Basilica should absolutely also be part of a visit to Rome.

Menaggio at Lake Como

In the very north of the country Lake Como is located. Around the lake there are many small Italian villages. Even though Bellagio is one of the most famous places on Lake Como, the village of Menaggio has a completely different charm. Among the many restaurants, bars and cafes you can stroll through the streets of Menaggio and enjoy the Italian flair.
To relax in the sun and swim in the water, Lake Como is the perfect destination for a summer holiday.

The canal city Venice

Venice is located in the northeast of Italy. This city has a lot to offer that other cities in Italy cannot match. The countless canals make the city unique. But not only the streets and canals make Venice look so special, but also the many sights such as the Rialto Bridge, the Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica.
Even if you can explore everything in Venice in just one day, it is worth staying longer.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa

The city of Pisa in Tuscany is famous for its Leaning Tower. Of course, this is also a place that is crowded with tourists, because everyone tries to take a picture of themselves and the tower. Nevertheless, you should have seen the tower when you travel to Italy.

Pisa

Positano on the Italian Amalfi Coast

Positano is one of the most famous places on the Amalfi Coast. Here you can lie on the beach, stroll through the village or enjoy the fantastic view over the sea. To see even more of the Amalfi Coast, it is worth taking a bus or car ride along the coast. Along the winding road, high up on the cliffs, you have a wonderful view over the sea, the coast and the villages.

The City of Florence

Florence is a city located in Tuscany. One day is enough for the sightseeing, but the city also has a lot to offer. Particularly impressive is the view from Piazzale Michelangelo. Here you have a panorama of the whole city. The Cathedral of Florence and the Ponte Veccio Bridge are also worth visiting.
