Are you a female traveler planning a solo trip but unsure where to go? Looking for solo female travel destinations where you can feel safe and easily meet new people? Don’t worry — I’m here to help.

Whether it’s your first or your hundredth solo female travel adventure, these destinations are perfect if you want to experience new cultures while, meet new people, make great memories and still feeling safe and able to enjoy your journey.

All the places I mention in this blog post are ones I’ve personally visited, and where I felt very safe and well taken care of as a female solo traveler.

So let’s get started and plan your next Solo Female Travel adventure!

Australia

Australia is absolutely perfect for solo travelers, no matter your age. From the Great Barrier Reef to the Outback, from iconic cities like Sydney to untouched beaches and unique wildlife — Australia is a land of contrasts and endless adventure. Of all the countries I’ve visited, Australia is by far my absolute favorite for solo female travel.

First of all, it’s super safe. People are generally very open, friendly, and helpful. The crime rate in tourist areas especially in major cities like Sydney or Melbourne is very low. Public places such as parks are often under video surveillance, and both the political and social conditions in the country are stable.

But Australia isn’t just safe, it’s also super easy to meet people and make new friends. There are backpackers everywhere, and popular backpacker routes are well organized and frequently traveled by other solo travelers. That makes it easy to connect with others without ever feeling unsafe.

Thailand

Thailand is one of the most popular destinations for young travelers and for good reason. That also means it’s generally quite safe. Many people travel here on their own, and it’s super easy to get around the country by taxi, bus, train, or plane. The locals are very kind and respectful, which makes traveling even more enjoyable.

Thailand is especially popular among young backpackers. In the most visited regions and along the classic backpacker routes, you’ll meet plenty of other solo travelers — including many women. It’s also the perfect destination if you’ve never traveled solo before and want to try it for the first time.

Cambodia

Similar to Thailand, Cambodia has a well-developed travel infrastructure. Taxis, buses, and minivans are easy to book and generally safe to use — especially for solo female travelers. The local people are incredibly helpful, friendly, and welcoming toward foreign cultures.

Cambodia is also part of the classic Southeast Asia backpacker route, so you’ll encounter solo (female) travelers just about everywhere. If you team up with other travelers along the way, you’ll feel even safer and more comfortable exploring the country.

Morocco

Despite all the stereotypes people might have about countries like Morocco being “dangerous” or “unsafe,” I actually felt very safe traveling there alone as a woman. The people are incredibly helpful, open, and friendly and many are happy to have a nice conversation. I wasn’t harassed and rarely found myself in situations that felt uncomfortable.

Morocco also has a well-developed infrastructure. It’s easy to get from one place to another using public transport. Bus drivers are usually very courteous and will help you find the right bus if you’re unsure.

You’ll find many other solo travelers in Morocco as well, which makes it easy to meet people and form new friendships especially in hostels.

Philippines

Crystal-clear water, soft sand, and stunning beaches — the Philippines are on many travelers’ bucket lists, and luckily, they’re also an amazing destination for solo travelers. Especially along the tourist routes, I felt incredibly safe and met many friendly locals and, of course, plenty of other travelers. Places like Siargao, Siquijor, and Bohol are especially popular among backpackers and solo female travelers.

Most locals speak fluent English, and street signs in tourist areas are usually in English too which makes getting around and communicating much easier.

The tourism infrastructure is well established: ferries and buses are easy to book, and it’s super simple to hop from one island to the next.

Laos

Compared to other countries in Southeast Asia, Laos is less frequented by tourists and backpackers. However, it’s still a fantastic destination for solo female travelers since you’ll still come across many other solo (female) travelers along the way.

The locals are incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming. Especially in rural areas, people are warm-hearted and very hospitable.

While the tourism infrastructure in Laos isn’t as developed as in neighboring countries like Vietnam, Thailand, or Cambodia, it’s still safe and easy to travel from one place to another.

Vietnam

Just like Thailand and Cambodia, Vietnam is a very popular destination for (female) solo travelers. The tourism infrastructure is well developed: you’ll find plenty of great accommodations and hostels where it’s super easy to meet new people, buses are quick and easy to book, and there are many organized tours that make traveling safe and convenient. There’s also a well-known “backpacker route,” so you’re never truly on your own.

As in all Southeast Asian countries, the locals in Vietnam are incredibly welcoming, helpful, and open to other cultures.

Italy

Italy is a dream destination for solo travelers who love culture, history, and amazing food. The cities are safe and welcoming, offering plenty of opportunities to meet new people or simply enjoy the vibrant street life on your own.

Italy is visited every year by travelers from all over the world — and it’s also one of my absolute favorite countries. From charming piazzas to breathtaking coastlines, Italy offers the perfect mix of adventure and comfort for every solo traveler.

Slovenia

With its beautiful lakes, stunning landscapes, adventurous mountains, and breathtaking views, Slovenia is an absolute must-see destination in Europe.

Especially the Triglav National Park is very well set up for tourists. Hiking alone through the mountains, forests, or around the lakes is generally safe with proper preparation. You will often meet other tourists, who are usually very helpful if you need assistance.

Additionally, the crime rate in Slovenia is very low. It is one of the safest countries in Europe.

London

Compared to other major cities worldwide, London’s crime rate is relatively moderate, especially in central, touristy areas. It’s very common to see women traveling alone in London whether sightseeing, dining, shopping, or enjoying the nightlife. So, you won’t stand out.

London’s public transport system is also perfect for female solo travelers. Trains and tubes are usually well-populated, many stations have security cameras and emergency call systems.

It’s not the most budget-friendly destination, but if you’re planning your first solo adventure, spending a few days in a city like London is a great way to get familiar with solo traveling.
