Milan, Italy
From Como to Milan
Of course it was clear to me that while we were on holiday at Lake Como we also had to visit the fashion metropolis Milan for a day. From Lake Como, Milan is just over an hour’s drive away.
We also talked to the landlord of our apartment about our plans to spend a day in Milan and he advised us to go to Milan by train from Como.
On our fifth day of vacation, we went to Como about 11 o’clock in the morning. Due to several traffic jams and construction sites we reached Como a little later than originally planned and then had to find a parking space. After we had finally parked the car in a parking garage, we only had a very small amount of time to walk to the station, draw a ticket and get the train on time.
In order to avoid the stress, we decided to make our way slowly to the station. Buy our ticket in peace and take the train an hour later. After a little back and forth in English, Italian and German with the ticket machine, we finally had our tickets.
Fortunately, the time in which we waited for the next train passed very quickly. And also the one hour train ride to Milan itself did not take so long.
Welcome to Milan
Around noon we arrived at the central station in Milan. Immediately we made our way to the city center armed with Google Maps. The road was not that far and relatively quickly we reached the first shopping street.
From expensive brand shops, ice cream parlors and restaurants you could find everything here. The houses here were all in a really nice old Italian style.
At the end of the pedestrian zone we could see the Milan Cathedral in the distance, which was then our next destination.
In fact, I have to admit that I had imagined the cathedral to be much bigger. We took many photos in the forecourt and once stumbled around the cathedral to see it from all sides.
Of course, we also visited the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, which is right next to the cathedral. Here one luxury shop was lined up next to the next. Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Gucci were all there.
Late in the afternoon we made our way back to the train station. Since we arrived only very close to the station before our train left, we decided to take the next train 30 minutes later.
So we bought our ticket in peace and waited for our train. But the scoreboard didn’t show our course at all. Although Google Maps said that there would be a train every thirty minutes. We waited and actually 30 minutes later no train came back to Como. So we had to wait a whole hour for the next train, which brought us back to Como.
Back at Lake Como we found out that we had chosen the perfect day for our short trip to Milan. In contrast to Milan the sky was cloudy and you could clearly see that it must have been raining a lot.
