The famous spots in Koh Phi Phi – Thailand Travel Diary
A long way to Koh Phi Phi
After our stay on Koh Pha-ngan we went on to Koh Phi Phi. At 7 am in the morning the taxi picked us up at the resort and took us to the ferry. There we had to wait a while until we could get to the ferry. The journey over the water back to the mainland took almost three hours. There a bus picked us up directly with which we then drove about three hours across the country to Krabi. As soon as we arrived we then had to get back on a ferry, which brought us to Koh Phi Phi. The trip took almost 3 hours again. At 5 pm we finally arrived at Koh Phi Phi.
Since there are no cars on the island, we left our luggage to a transporter. This was then pushed in large carriages to our hotel. We ourselves walked about 15 minutes to the hotel. On the way there we saw countless cats. The island is also well known for the many cats lurking at every corner.
For the next three days we stayed in a hotel that was again very nice. The twin rooms were relatively large and from our room we had a view of the infinity pool on the opposite terrace.
The first evening on Koh Phi Phi
We didn’t have much time for ourselves that evening, because we met again at 7pm at the reception to go together to the restaurant, where we had dinner.
After dinner we went to a bar, which was right next to our hotel. There we watched a fire show. During the fire show, people played with fire and threw it through the air. This was very fascinating but also quite scary.
After the fire show we all went to bed, because we were quite exhausted from the long journey.
Koh Phi Phis famous Lookout Point
The next morning we met again at 8 am at the reception. From there we headed to Koh Phi Phi’s famous Lookout Point. We left early in the morning, because it was not so hot at that time and the Lookout Point was not so crowded by tourists.
About 45 minutes later we finally arrived at the Lookout Point totally sweaty. But for the breath-taking view it was worth the strenuous walk up the many steps. From above we enjoyed the view over Koh Phi Phi and made countless pictures.
As soon as we were back at the hotel we had the morning some time to ourselves. Together with a few others I spent some of the time in the pool. Before it went on a boat trip in the afternoon I then ate in a bar something for lunch.
Spotted Nemo
At half past three we met again at the reception. From there we walked together to the harbour and then boarded our boat for the afternoon.
First we drove to a spot where we could go snorkelling. There we could see really nice fish and actually we were able to find Nemo. After the snorkeling we stayed a short time at this spot and were always jumping into the water and went swimming.
Later we drove on to a small island. There we got out of the boat and explored the island. We also saw some crabs there on the beach. We also tried to caught the crabs to keep it on hand for a short time. When we were back on the boat we first got our dinner. At the same time we wanted to watch the sunset, but since it was cloudy on that day, we could not see the sunset.
A lightshow under water
When it was finally dark, we went snorkeling again to see so-called plankton. You could only see this if you went underwater in the dark and then stomped with your feet. Then the plankton under water started to glow like fireflies.
As soon as we were back at the harbour at 7:30 pm, we had to walk back to the hotel. There we had not had much time to take a shower, because at 8:30 we wanted to meet again at the reception to go to a bar together.
Koh Phi Phis Nightlife
We then went to a Muay Thai bar, where in the middle of the bar there was a big ring where you could fight. Those who volunteered for it got a free drink. A girl from my group actually dared to fight another girl. Unfortunately, she lost, but it had to be said that her opponent was not really fair and took the fight much more seriously than she should have.
At 11 pm we moved on to a bar on the beach, which most of us also liked more than the Muay Thai Bar. Nevertheless, the evening in the other bar was also very good.
Trying to spot Leonardo DiCaprio
The next morning we met again at 9 am at the reception, because we had another boat trip on that day.
Our first stop was the famous Maya Bay, where a movie with Leonard DiCaprio was shot. The bay was really beautiful and most of us could have stayed there all day. Unfortunately we went back to the boat already after an hour. At that time, however, many tourist boats arrived on the island, so that the bay was far too crowded.
Our next stop was another bay where we could jump into the water and go swimming. The water there was so nice green / turquoise, that you could not really see yourself fed up.
Spotting some monkeys
After we all had a swim, we went on to the next stop: Monkey Beach. On this beach we could watch monkeys in the wild. Previously, we were warned not to get too close to the monkeys and avoid eye contact. Besides, we shouldn’t wear yellow clothes, which fortunately none of us did either.
On the island we were able to observe some monkeys, and also a baby monkey. After all, unfortunately, we also had to observe how a family tried to touch the monkeys. We’ve already seen that the little monkey was pretty scared. The child wanted to reach for the monkey, so one of the monkeys attacked the child. Fortunately, no more happened than that the child had a big scratch on his face, which was immediately treated. We all noticed, that the child was also wearing neon yellow bathing trunks. I think they did everything wrong what you can do wrong.
After our stop at Monkey Beach, we got a sandwich for lunch on the boat. Then we went on to our next stop, a small island. There we then had an hour to relax. Together with a girl from my tour I explored the island during that time.
Going snorkeling
After an hour on this beach we went on to our last stop on that day. In the middle of the water we stopped to go snorkeling there. This time we were able to see a starfish. Some of us have also seen a shark, but unfortunately I have not seen it. But I was able to observe a large group of fish.
At 4 pm we were finally back at the hotel. The time until dinner we all spent in our rooms to recover from the long day.
At 7 pm we met again at the reception, from where we went to dinner. Unfortunately, this was our last evening together with some of the group, as they had booked only the 12 day tour. After dinner we went to a tattoo studio, because some of us wanted to get a tattoo as a memory.
After that we went back to the hotel, because the next day we had a longer trip to Phuket.
Next stop: Phuket
After our stay on Koh Phi Phi we should go to Chiang Mai next. But before we wanted to take the flight there, we made a stopover for one night in Phuket.
First we took the ferry from Koh Phi Phi to Phuket at 11 o’clock in the morning. After a two-hour drive over the water we finally arrived in Phuket. There we were picked up directly by a bus that drove us to our hotel.
Our hotel rooms were really nice as they were very modern and clean. We all just left our things in our rooms, as we were all very hungry and wanted to have something to eat right away. In a seafood restaurant near our hotel we finally had lunch at about 4pm.
After lunch, many of us went to the pool of our hotel, while I was in the gym, which was also in the hotel.
The last night together
At 8 pm we met again at the reception to make our way to a food market. We were still with the people who had booked only the 12 day tour, as they were all in Phuket privately. So we all had one last night together.
The sellers on the food market as well as on the street were very pushy. Every meter, at least two people tried to sell us something. Whether it was food, drinks, cigarettes or tickets to enter a club.
After dinner at the food market we wanted to end the evening in a bar. First we wanted to go to a rooftop bar. We also drove up to the roof, but the party was not quite what we had imagined so we moved on to a backpackerbar. The evening in this bar was really fun, but when we finally had to say goodbye, it was really sad. I really couldn’t have wished for a better group for this trip.
The next day me and the rest of the tour group continued to our last stop in Thailand. If you would like to know what I experienced during my time in Chiang Mai. Please read my next blog post Jungle trekking and playing with elephants in Chiang Mai – Thailand Travel Diary.
